The Beauty of Reading To Your Newborn + WIN [GIVEAWAY CLOSED]

It is never too early to start reading to your newborn.

We all know and understand that reading to our baby, helps to build their vocabulary. However, I like to draw your attention to the fact that reading to your little one is a BONDING opportunity.

Engaging your baby in conversations, reading to them, singing to them, is part of the bigger picture of bonding, building a connection and helping them to make sense of their world through words.

Here are 6 Reasons Why You Should Be Reading To Your Newborn

1. One on one bonding with your baby.

Reading to your newborn represents a unique bonding opportunity.

When your little one is a newborn, reading and talking to her is a way for her to get to you know a bit more.
Your baby is listening and learning, way before she can even talk.

2. Your baby loves hearing your voice.

Whether you are reading a book or narrating the surroundings, keep talking! Your baby loves hearing your voice.

3. Create a culture of reading from early on.

By incorporating reading into your daily routine with your little one, reading will be regarded as a fun activity. Read to your baby often.

4. Reading a book is a calming way to get your baby ready for sleep.

Adding a book to your bedtime, or nap time routine is a great way to establish a routine.

5. When your baby is little you have pretty much carte blanche on reading material.

When your little one is still small, you can read anything you want. A newspaper, narrating the day, etc. When baby can sit up and hold books, you may expose your little one to board books and soft books.

Have books that are for play (e.g., soft-play books, board books, etc.) that are easily accessible to your little one. Then, have a few books that you will read to your baby that are special bedtime, and play time books with you.

6. Reading is a great way to get both parents and family members involved in your baby’s routine.

By having reading as one of the activities, you can quickly get a parent or grandparent involved in your baby’s routine by having them read a book to your little one.

To Help you Start your little one’s collection of special books, we partnered up with Penguin Random House South Africa to bring a super cute prize.
